A Dreamer's Guide to Setting Goals

Achieving your dreams and goals takes a lot of work, but the first step to making those dreams come true is setting them. Once you’ve done here is how to get the direction to make them happen! goal-setting has a method behind it that’s helps many dreamers achieve their goals, and I hope they help you too!

When you’re Having trouble setting your own goals? Your situation is more common than you might think. In fact, it's estimated that over 90% of people have a difficult time setting their own goals. Why because its just not something that is apart of mainstream education so don’t feel bad if you may be one of them. so, I have some advice: Set SMART goals (goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound) and make sure they're in alignment with your values and passions. Once you know where you're going and why you're going there, everything else will fall into place, but most important be inspired find someone to work with you, or find someone working against you take that energy and GO FOR IT !!

Being Realistic is something you may also struggle with, as I find when im helping others set their goals its outside of their means and ability, this is when you need to take a step back and say ok I need smaller goals to reach the bigger goals in order to make it happen. So really The first step in setting a goal is to understand yourself and what you’re capable of achieving. Look at your past achievements and evaluate where you are today. Are you satisfied with your current life direction? What goals do you have for yourself over next six months, one year, five years, ten years? The more realistic your goals are, based on your personal strengths and weaknesses as well as capabilities, finances and time constraints, the better off you’ll be when it comes time to actually execute them.

Analyze What's Preventing You From Getting There When dreaming up goals, it’s easy to get bogged down in semantics. You might think, My dream is a family of my own... but what does that really mean? How many kids do I want? What career path would I take? Where would we live? And should we adopt, foster, or have biological children? Sometimes it will be important to look at all the options and possibilities when setting your goals, but remember that you need to leave life to take its on path as you cant be in control of every small things as I’ve found out the path you take will have hurdles and plans do sometimes fail so I always say leave enough room to change and just see what happens. “go with the flow”.

Breaking down things by Setting Both Short-Term and Long-Term Goals No one sets a goal and achieves it in a day. It takes days, weeks, months or even years to achieve goals. You need to be patient with yourself when you are setting your goals; be realistic with what you want and how you will get there. If your goal is too big or unrealistic, then break it down into smaller parts that make sense for your life. This will help you create steps along your journey towards that larger dream so that one day you can achieve it. Here is a little trick you can use that many experts use to get you started on translating those dreams into goals. There are a lot of different options, but I find this one works really well as its smart and simple without overthinking it. So S.M.A.R.T goals is crucial for any big project, Goal, or achievement: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely. Write them down (I love a good spreadsheet or my color pens in a Journal. These benchmarks can help turn your dreams into action items and provide a clear path forward as you start to take steps toward achieving your goals in life.
